Sky Walk (Hanging Bridges)

Arenal Hanging Bridges is a beautiful , environmentally -friendly project located near the Arenal Volcano.

The Arenal Hanging Bridges are located about half an hour northwest of La Fortuna near the foot of Arenal Volcano. The two mile (3 km) loop trail with the 15 bridges (eight of them fixed and six suspended) were built within a wonderful 600 acre (250 ha) private rainforest reserve. This ecotourism project was designed to blend in with the natural environment, leaving the forest virtually intact.

The bridges are between 26 and 320 feet (8 m and 98 m) long and are situated on different levels of the forest. The "Waterfall Bridge" for example is over 197 feet (60 m) off the ground. From the trail and the low bridges you can experience the forest from the perspective of a ground dwelling animal, e.g. a Jaguar. The medium-rise bridges give you a monkeys or sloths perspective of the forest and from the high-rise bridges overlooking the treetop you will see the forest as for example an eagle does.

Departure: Varies
Includes: guide, transportation and entrance to private reserve.
Duration: approx. 4 hours
Price: $53
What to bring: bug repellent, camera, binoculars, hiking boots or tennis shoes and rain gear

Vernado Caves

Explore Earth's inner-depths during a 2-hour trek through underground waterfalls & smooth, stone passage-ways – see prehistoric, marine fossils & exotic cave formations.

Set within the northern lowlands of Costa Rica, the Venado Caves offer visitors a rare glimpse into a mystical underground world – one that is filled with stalactites and stalagmites, caverns, rivers, fossils, and strange subterranean creatures.

This 2,700-meter stretch of limestone caves is believed to have formed some 20 million years ago as the result of both tectonic shifting and a forceful underground river. After their formation, the caves remained below sea level for a long period of time. Finally surfacing through further tectonic movement, the caves were eventually discovered by a group of indigenous aborigines who lived in the area- the Guatuzos.

During your guided tour of the caves, you’ll see limestone rock formations, bats, monochrome frogs, fish, spiders, crickets, and a variety of marine fossils. You may get a little wet – due to the waterfall and river – so it’s advised to wear light, quick-drying clothes.

Departure: 8:00 am and 2:00 pm
Includes: Transport, guide, helmet, flashlight, entrance.
Duration: approx. 4 hours
Price: $59
